ASUS RT-N12+,RT-AC66U B1 and RT-AC1200 routers review

Blog

This post will be useful for everyone who is choosing a router and decided on ASUS devices. Most likely you have already allocated a certain amount of money to buy a router. Or you know how much you can spend. Therefore, we will consider three routers from different price categories, which will suit different tasks. Among the models we will consider:

ASUS RT-N12+, RT-AC1200 and RT-AC66U B1: ASUS routers of different price categories

  1. ASUS RT-N12+ is the single cheapest router from ASUS.
  2. ASUS RT-AC1200 is a more expensive model than RT-N12+. This router is more powerful and supports the new 802.11ac standard.
  3. ASUS RT-AC66U B1 is the most expensive and powerful router in our review. It supports 802.11ac, 2 USB ports.

If you’ve already looked at different router options, you’ve probably noticed that ASUS networking devices are almost always a bit more expensive than similar devices from other manufacturers. And I believe that it is quite justified and the price corresponds to the quality. Since these routers are reliable, made with quality and work well for many years. I also like ASUS routers because they have a simple and multi-lingual control panel. Plus, this control panel is the same on all new routers.
Personally, we have an Asus RT-N13U router in our office for more than 6 years and it is still working well and with good quality

ASUS RT-N12+ is a cheap and good router

The RT-N12 model itself can be with different indices: “+”, “VP”, “D1”, “E”. All of them are practically the same in terms of technical characteristics, price and are made in one case. A cool cheap router that will fit for a small apartment, or house without problems. But if you have a lot of devices that will create a serious load on the network (watching videos simultaneously on several devices, online games, downloading files), it’s better to choose a more powerful and expensive model. There is a probability that ASUS RT-N12 won’t cope with such a load.

It’s a good model. It is made qualitatively. Nothing special in terms of characteristics. Everything is standard, like all budget models.

  • Wi-Fi speed is up to 300 Mbps.
  • LAN port speed 100 Mbps.
  • 2 antennas of 5 dBi.
  • Support for all necessary functions and technologies.
  • If you have a small budget, or you want to save money on buying a router, this model will suit you perfectly.

ASUS RT-AC1200 – an affordable router with IEEE 802.11ac support

This is not a budget model, but not a top one either. It is the golden mean in the price/quality and functionality ratio. It’s a great router for home, which can handle online games, video playback, downloading files, etc. without any problems. Of course, the AC1200 model can give out Wi-Fi at 5 GHz. There is support for the 802.11ac standard.

Key features:

  • Wi-Fi speed up to 1200 Mbps.
  • MIMO technology.
  • IEEE 802.11ac support. Wi-Fi at 5 GHz.
  • LAN and WAN ports are non gigabit. With a maximum speed of 100 Mbps.
  • 1 USB 2.0 port.
  • 4 antennas. 2 are responsible for networking at 2.4 GHz, and 2 more for the 5 GHz frequency.

I think this router is more than enough for normal home use. If you don’t know why you need a powerful and expensive router, there’s no sense in buying a more expensive model than ASUS RT-AC1200.

ASUS RT-AC66U B1 – the powerful and best router for home

best router for home ASUS RT-AC66U B1 review

This is not the most expensive and top of the line router from ASUS, but the router is functional and very productive, we think it is the best router for home. The processor is clocked at 1GHz. This means that good speed and stable network is provided even with a large number of connected devices, if you have a large family or office, it will be a great solution. Besides, ASUS RT-AC66U supports all modern technologies. This means that the router will be relevant and will not become obsolete for a long time.

This model has everything:

  • Support for the modern IEEE 802.11ac standard.
  • Wi-Fi network speed up to 1750 Mbps.
  • Gigabit LAN and WAN ports.
  • Powerful processor.
  • 2 USB ports. One of which is standard 3.0.

This router is definitely worth its money. If your budget allows, you can safely buy it.

If these three models don’t suit you, or you still have some questions about technical aspects, share your opinion!
