If your G-Shock doesn’t work the way it used to, if the hands stop or jump, the backlight doesn’t work, or the screen goes out, then the battery in your watch has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. In this article we will tell you what battery you need to buy, where to buy it and how to replace the battery in your G-Shock.

All batteries in Casio watches can be divided into 2 categories: batteries and solar batteries
Batteries are in turn divided into subcategories in the form of specific names – CR1220, CR2016, CR2025, SR927W and others. The main difference between these batteries among themselves is their service life, which varies from 2 to 10 years. The 10-year-old batteries have a reduced power consumption, which is why they last so long. And they are used in watches with a simple mechanism without a second hand [the movement of which also saps the battery] and not with a very powerful backlight. It is not uncommon to see watches with two batteries, and most often the SR927W – one of them separately for the backlight [if the backlight is powerful, such as the Super Illuminator] and the other for everything else.

Solar batteries are divided into specific models. The principal differences are in some parameters, such as the nominal capacity or the operating voltage. The most common are CTL1616 and CTL920, but there are others. These batteries have a longer life than conventional batteries and usually last 7-10 years [sometimes more], depending on the conditions in which the watch is used and other external factors. They are charged by any source of light – just leave the watch on a window sill on a sunny day for a couple of hours.

Casio “solar” batteries
Solar batteries are also divided into specific models. Here already fundamental differences in some parameters, such as the nominal capacity or operating voltage. The most common are such as – CTL but there are others. Service life of these batteries is higher than conventional batteries, and is usually more than 10 years. They are charged by daylight – simply wear the watch on your wrist with the sleeve uncovered or leave it on a window sill on a sunny day for a couple of hours.
Normally, the HI indicator is on when the watch is charged and the LO indicator when it is off.

Important: The watch must have a special solar panel in order to recharge the battery. In any other G-Shock model without a panel the batteries will not work
